Make it Music
In partnership with Metropolis Studios London, ellesse have curated new studio series ‘Make it Music’, showcasing performances from some of the UK’s finest fresh talent.
Released monthly throughout 2017, the Make it Music sessions feature exclusive interviews and live performances from a diverse range of talent, including Belly Squad, BlackWaters, Laurel and Fenech-Soler. Also in store are a few surprises from some established, recognised artists – but our lips are firmly sealed for now!
The first acts set to kick-off the series are UK hip-hop artist Paigey Cakey and indie-pop act Jerry Williams.
Paigey Cakey is an increasingly influential female artist within the UK’s growing hip-hop and rap scene. Originating from Hackney in London, Paigey’s formed her original style through her home grown bars, beats and melodies. Having collaborated with Stormzy, Abel Miller and Chip, she’s already making her mark on the industry and flying the flag for British females in the rap game.
“Growing up my biggest inspirations were Miss Dynamite and Missy Elliott. Before I was Paigey Cakey I was actually ‘Hype Dynamite’ because I’m hyper and because I just wanted to be Miss Dynamite.” Talking about her fashion inspo, Paigey says, “I used to look up to Teyana Taylor. I loved her kind of swagger… cos she used to be real tomboy but she had her sexy days too.”
Acclaimed as one to watch in 2017 by BT, Jerry Williams draws her inspiration from bands such as Vampire Weekend, Slow Club and Coldplay. Her honest, conversational style of music has been compared to the likes of Kate Nash and Lily Allen. The 21-year-old released her debut EP ‘Cold Beer’ in 2015; a collection of songs narrating and documenting her life growing up in Portsmouth;
“I wrote ‘Cold Beer’ about a night out I had in London. I was just about to play a gig and this guy put a cold beer on my leg as I was walking up to the stage. It made me think. It was a cool concept like “oh you put the beer on my leg, were you trying to get my attention?” so I just made up a story around that.“
All audio for the project has been recorded, mixed and mastered by Metropolis’ Grammy award-winning engineers, whilst video content produced at the sessions will be hosted by ellesse.
Speaking about the project, Gavin Newman, Metropolis Events and Content Director, commented:
“Metropolis Studios has always been at the forefront of supporting great talent, so it’s very exciting when a brand like ellesse shows a down to earth commitment towards helping spread the music.”
Metropolis Studios is known globally as being Europe’s No.1 independent recording studio. Around 50% of the UK Top 40 chart hits are recorded, mixed, mastered or creatively treated in the iconic complex. Renowned acts such as Queen, Michael Jackson and the Rolling Stones have worked on projects at the studio’s Chiswick home.
Andy Reid, Marketing Director for ellesse, added:
“The Make it Music project creates a fantastic partnership between ellesse and some of the best acts and artists coming through right now. We’re incredibly excited to be involved with this talent.”
